Skip-level meeting template with clear boundaries

Skip-level conversations need useful structure and privacy boundaries. Use this template manually, or use EvalSuite participant-private 1:1s where appropriate.

Context

  • What is working well on your team?
  • Where are decisions slow or unclear?
  • What should leadership understand better?

Support

  • Where do you need clearer context?
  • What would make your manager relationship more effective?
  • What should stay confidential in this conversation?

Follow-up

  • What, if anything, should be shared onward?
  • Who owns the next step?
  • What should not be turned into performance evidence?

How to use this template

Use skip-levels to understand patterns, support, and context. Avoid turning the meeting into a shadow performance review.

Use it manually or keep boundaries explicit

EvalSuite distinguishes direct-report 1:1s from org-member 1:1s so non-direct conversations stay useful without silently creating manager-private review evidence.

What should survive the conversation

Keep high-level themes, explicit follow-ups, and any participant-approved share packet. Do not treat raw notes as automatic manager evidence.

Workflow example

A founder meets a teammate outside their reporting line, captures a participant-safe recap, and only promotes a selected snippet when the teammate explicitly chooses to share it.

Example output

The visible output should be concrete enough to inspect.

  • Participant-safe recap
  • Optional explicit follow-up
  • Selected snippet only when shared
  • No silent direct-manager evidence creation
